Metheglin?

Post by Norik » Thu Jul 03, 2014 4:08 pm

Has anyone made Metheglin? As I understand it its essentially spiced mead.

I've seen it mention whilst reading a few times, and it’s piqued my interest.
Litany For Beer
I must drink the Beer.
Beer is the mind-killer.
Beer is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my Beer.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the Beer has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Herbs and/or spices, yeh.
Unless you have a very distinctive honey it's always worth whacking something else in
Most mead recipes are actually not just straight mead.
There are a few mead makers here and on http://forum.craft brewing.org.uk/ but the motherlode is at gotmead.com

A few times. I find it tends to take a while to age so needs a bit of patience. I've gotten into the habit of 6 months in a dj followed by a year in the bottle before I start to drink it.

I have some on the go right now, I used sprig of rosemary and a chunk on ginger. 1 ground lemon peel and 1 lemon juice..to just under 5 liters of mead.. It's looking prity good, smells prity good and I'm hoping the taste is similar :)

I'm a big fan of ginger metheglyn, best mead I've made so far was the ginger batch I've written about on here somewhere. Also done some with cinnamon and vanilla

Drinking - Youngs AAA Kit; Leatherwood Traditional Mead, Cyser, Ginger Metheglyn.
Planning - Some kits until I can get back to AG, then a hoppy porter, Jim's ESB, some American Red.

Google Joes ancient orange mead or JAOM mead. I made some back in April for Christmas, a sneaky taster last week, it was cracking.

OK not metheglin: Melomel
Lush
Basically any mixed berries wine recipe, with honey in place of the sugar, and some more honey coz I like my meads strong.
The berries will cover the fact you used cheap honey!
For an extra twist, use golden syrup instead of honey!
Everybody likes this stuff (OK, 8 out of 8 people who've tried it)
