hi all,

No this is not a post about john terry!

i was actually wondering what the consencus is on the use of heading powder and liquids. do they work? are they a waste of money?

mi grandad seemed to use powder in most of the recipes in his brew journal but i've not come accross many people talking about these products on jbk. just wondered what ya all thought??

its never even crossed my mind to use such a thing in the year that I have been brewing from kits, extract to All-Grain.

I think this vote might end up a bit one sided. In the old days, before t'internet, it was fairly common for folks to use heading liquids and stuff. Big foamy heads were the fashion and inevitably you ended up buying some because it was on the LHBS shelf, just staring at you.

looking that way! my grandad swore by it in his brewing heyday of the 70's. and its still available in my hbs! so i wondered what the current thinking was about this.

seems i'll follow suit and not bother...

i add 5-7% wheat to get a good head too, apparantly thats what the folks at boddingtons do to get a creamy white head.

it apparantly also has a side effect of making melanie sykes dress up as a saucy ice cream vendor.

i add 5- 10% wheat for head retention youll get a bit of that from crystal too
