Recipe for WL Burton Ale yeast

Post by JabbA » Tue Feb 23, 2010 11:00 pm

I've still got half a dozen bottles of Burton yeast that I split when making a White Shield clone the Cambridge Beer Experiment, any pointers as to a recipe that would make good use of it? Getting a brew on this weekend should mean it'll be nicely matured, and indeed fitting, for our annual St George's Day BBQ!

I'm not overly keen on these very hoppy American IPA numbers, after something a bit more traditional but that'll not need a year to condition! Anybody brewed Flowers IPA from GW's book or Burton Bridge Biter?

Cheers,
Jamie

Mmmmmm............I'm sure a drop of my Reverend's Ringpiece or smp465's Smily S'am would change your mind :D

Considering the age of your yeast, i would use a couple of those in a starter prepared well in advance, just in case it's lost some viability. I've used this in Old Pec, Sarah Hughes and the White Shield. The White Shield took it's time to turn into something that i would serve to seasoned beer drinkers, but the Sarah Hughes was excellent with the Old Pec a close second. Oh, just remembered i used it in the Ruddles County that I'm drinking at the moment. Its good beer, but not as good as the County i brewed with 1098. My personal opinion is that it's well suited to darker beers.

Actually I loved smp465's Blond Twin, and have got all the hops to brew it soon  Sarah Huges, now there's an idea- I've been meaning to give it another go after my last attempt, well lets say, wasn't quite right :) Yep, was planning on stepping up 2 samples tonight for a Saturday brewday.

What about a Pale Ale recipe from around 1921, that utilizes American 6-row barley???
