hello
this wonderful weather has got me back into brewing, I have just picked up a sack of halcyon malt, and am looking for a recipe with massive late hopping, I want something to smell and taste hoptastic. I have the usual challenger, golding, fuggles, and as a fairly novice brewer would appreciate any direction given, fortunately I have some yeast from my local microbrewery- but he wouldn't tell me what it is, anyhow the point is I'm getting my mojo back so full steam ahead.
cheers

You might find this article of interest:
http://www.mrmalty.com/late_hopping.htm
Recipe at the end is a cracker - not brit at all but could be simplified and anglicised in recipes and ingredients to good effect... (e.g. use all 3 of your hop varieties in a mix or go early challenger and lots of late fuggles, or early fuggles and lots of late EKG)
'First wort hopping' can supposedly help get more flavour out where ou put your bittering charge into the kettle and run the wort onto it (rather than bringing wort to boil and adding it once boiling) so if you combined a little first wort hopping for bitterness with a LOT of late and steeping hops you should get the effect you're after. You can use a recipe as is but add hops as you run wort onto them - there's debate over change in bitterness levels that occurs but it's pretty academic rather than critical differences in bitterness levels. Good into at http://www.brewersfriend.com/2009/05/09 ... t-hopping/ more in-depth article on it at http://www.brewery.org/library/1stwort.html
Of course if you want to get really silly you;d buy yourself one of these: http://www.blichmannengineering.com/Hop ... ocket.html

Re: late hopping, recipe wanted
I believe that you can convert any recipe to a late hopping recipe by simply matching the "regular" IBUs with additions starting at 15min remaining.
Aside from that, I'm tempted by the recipe above...

Re: late hopping, recipe wanted
thanks steve
so could i put all my challenger in as FWH and then just add the fuggles at 0 mins, or would i need to increase the amount of fuggles, or have I over simplified things.
cheers

Instead of a 90 or 60 min addition you could FWH with those - and then add more hops at 15 and 0 minutes...
