Just searching around for some hoppy experiments in Hefeweizens having tried Marble Brewery's Weizen, which has a lovely hop aroma.
How did this experiment turn out?

The citra version was fine, but most people that tried it (including myself) still prefered the straight hefe on ballance. The flavour was more citrussy as you'd expect, but the effect was a lot more subtle than I'd imagined. So a bit different and fairly nice but not astounding enough that I've brewed it again; the normal hefe seems a better ballance of flavours really.
Although with the re-heating and extra evaporation for the citra batch it turned out higher gravity than expected, and finished with more residual sweetness too, so as an experiment it was a bit flawed; the hops weren't the only variable.
Cheers

Great, thanks.
Did you get anywhere with getting additional esters from underpitching the yeast?

Yes, I got quite noticable banana notes, which is what i was looking for (I chose wlp300 rather than 351 for that reason) so was quite happy.
In fairness I have never done this recipe 'without' under-pitching though, so I can't say exactly how much it added. There has never been any sign of the yeast failing though, they are definately up for it, so my initial concerns were needless and on the basis of "if it ain't broke.." its routine for me now (with this yeast/recipe).
Cheers
