Brown ale

Post by spanspoon » Tue Apr 28, 2015 11:39 pm

I've just had my order of grains delivered from Worcester hop shop (smooth transaction as always)! I've just realised I've got a day to myself tomorrow and looking at brewing a brown ale. I've got 500g of brown malt, crystal, chocolate and black grains. Not sure of hpps.
Any ideas for a simple tasty brown ale would be welcome!

Dumb questions, maybe, but: I assume you also have lots of pale base malt? and is that 500 g each of specialty malts?

From greg hughes book

Pale malt 4.8kg
crystal 250g
chocolate 100g
Mash at 65

Admiral 16g at start (70 min boil)
challenger 16g at end

Or

Pale malt 3.5kg
dark crystal 300 g
chocolate 100g
terrified wheat 100g
black malt 55g
Mash at 65

Then
fuggle s 24g at start (70 minutes)
Fuggle 24g last ten minutes

Again credit to greg hughes ( excellent book currently on offer on amazon)
