Wells Eagle IPA?...

Post by bigdave » Tue Jun 29, 2010 3:17 pm

I remember drinking this some years ago and falling in love. Ive had a quick search but cant find a recipe. The Wells Eagle IPA web page (yes it has its own page) mentions a few ingredients as Styrian & English Challenger hops and English Ale & Crystal malts. Please could someone with an idea how to put together a recipe, give me some idea of what quantities etc i would potentially be looking at to brew this or perhaps even point me in the direction of a complete recipe??

You need to use water from Bedford River Ouse !
Its got swans on it that dispense excrement to add flavour to Charley Wells beer !
The worst thing I ever did was move away from Burton on Trent to Bedford ! Crap beer !

Good luck though !

Many years ago Charles wells commissioned a top marketing company to design a new label for there ales that summed up there brand, after months of research the top dogs assembled in the board room for the unavailing of the new art work, the cover came off to reveal a tranquil meadow scene with people relaxing and fishing in the river ,initially the directors were very happy until on closer inspection they noticed the people relaxing were actually having sex,and the fishermen were urinating in the water.Angry at the image the director ask the marking bod how the hell this portrayed the Charles wells brand, simple said the marketing bod,we asked several thousand people there thoughts on Charles wells ales, and the most popular response was "Charles wells? f***ing near piss water"

That looks good Seymour. A std English bitter.

They may start off with that recipe but God knows what they do to it.

I too now live in an area dominated by Charlie Wells & GK. :(
Eagle varies from drinkable to awful.

The shame is that Youngs ales are beginning to taste like Charlie Wells ones now too

That's really too bad. Industrial-scale breweries, corporate mergers, cost-cutting efficiencies, homogenization and dumbing-down of consumer tastes, etc, seem to be obliterating good beer worldwide.

I was at boarding school in Bedford so learned my drinking there. We all drank Greene King in the days when IPA was a prince and Abbot Ale was king. Charlie Wells was rubbish then. Tried sine recently . Average at best but the Greene King isn't a patch on what it was

Yes, it's too bad things are going downhill over there. Here, I really think things are getting better and better. In Dallas, there have been several new micros opened in the last couple of years. In fact, the market has heated up so much that I suspect some of them will not make it and the smart money will be able to buy brewery equipment very inexpensively. My personal plan is to try and get myself to the point where my beer is commerical quality so I am completely in control of the situation, at least as far as my personal quaffing is concerned. :D
Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)
