Hop Back Dark Mild anybody?

Post by DaveyT » Fri Sep 17, 2010 4:04 pm

Howdy
Thinking of cracking on with GW´s Hop Back Dark Mild. Has anybody tried it?
I wouldn´t mind making it a bit stronger. Is it worth using the 25l recipe for a 23l brew to nock it up a notch? Or would this just balls it up?

Nothing wrong with using a 25l recipe for a 23l batch, as long as you are happy for it to be a bit stronger, bitterer and hoppier. And who would have a problem with that?

Nice! Strangely, that advice is helpful but a completely different reason. The dude in the brew shop gave me insufficient grains to do the Dark Mild so I went for an Exmoor Ale instead. Then I decided to use an electric whisk to oxigenate the brew before pitching the yeast and the head on it obscured the scale on the side of the FV. Now I´ve got 21l not 23l and toying with the idea of whacking 2l in or just letting it get on with things.
I´ve read that I could oxygenate again after 24 hours. Perhaps I could use this as an opportunity to bring things up to volume. What do you reckon? My last brew was a bit off piste and it´s come out a bit funny. Once bitten and all that...
