Brakspear Triple clone?

Post by lukesharpe » Fri Oct 29, 2010 12:28 am

Just enjoying a bottle of Brakspear Triple and wondering if anyone has a clone recipe for it? Graham does not cover it in BYOBRA. :(

For what my opinion is worth, I think this is a stonking beer. Strong, full of flavour, but balanced enough so that the strength is not overpowering.

The bottle says crystal, black and maris otter.

It is a good beer. I don't have a recipe but I have recultured the yeast successfully, so I would do that. I guess there isn't much black as it isn't a dark beer. Otherwise I guess I'd formulate roughly like a bitter, maybe use some sugar to keep it from getting too cloying. Or mash low I guess. Hop around 50% of IBU, not sure which ones (sorry), but I'd go with traditional English ones. You probably know more than I do, what do you reckon?

I'd be interested if anybody who actually knows what they're doing has any thoughts or a recipe.

edit to remove quote about another beer, Doh #-o

Yeah, had a look on their site and they alude to using mostly English local hop. Fuggles in particular.

On closer inspection, they say that they use Target hops. :)
