Re: ALL GRAIN LAGER HELP
Yes you can but ideally you want lager malt. Still MO will make a good lager.
You could just do a single malt and single hop kind of idea here. Go Saaz all the way or Hallertau if you want something more floral.
How hoppy do you want the beer and how bitter? Pitch a decent amount of yeast and ferment 10 - 12 C

Perhaps consider mashing it at a lower temperature for a drier finish.
Of those hops, i'd use saaz for bittering with more saaz plus a bit of bobek right at the end.

Then don't waste good malt and hops. Simply piss in a bucket for a week, add half a bottle of meths and then carbonate it.kris12312 wrote:i want like a carling like lager if that helps ,
Re: ALL GRAIN LAGER HELP
haha i no that but its not for me , i no there like carling but i want to make a lot better lager
Re: ALL GRAIN LAGER HELP
About 4.5kg pale malt
50g of Saaz for 60 mins
Another 30 - 50g at the end of the boil.
Should be a nice lager with a bit more flavour than what they're used to but not too scary.

Pissing in a bucket would make a better lager than carling anywaykris12312 wrote:haha i no that but its not for me , i no there like carling but i want to make a lot better lager

Yeah, you can replace Lager with MO malt but it won't have the ligher colour you may expect from a lager. Garth and I brewed a variation of Horden Hillbilly's lager and had to replace a large proportion of Lager with MO and it worked just fine. Horden's recipe page - http://uk-homebrew.tripod.com/id26.html. Hope you don't mind HH?!

No, of course not. Looking back over the years, I think that most of the UK has been awash with Mrs H's lager! lol.

Re: ALL GRAIN LAGER HELP
Yes, it'll be a tasty brew IMO. Probably too good for your Carling-drinking mate. Keep it for yourself!
Re: ALL GRAIN LAGER HELP
Difficult to clone a commercial lager IMO, you just can't get them to taste bad enough, thankfully homebrew lager is much tastier. I spoke to a guy from Coors brewery a few years back who swore that carling actually tasted good before they filtered and pasteurised it!
On a side note, has anyone tried the SB14 lager yeast? I have 4 packs I bought last year and the current shed temperature is looking good for an upcoming lager brew........

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.
