Can anyone recommend a session ale?

Post by Rowang » Tue Oct 18, 2011 8:46 pm

Im doing a "use up" brew, and want to make a session ale 3.6%-4% ish. Reason being, all the other beers I have on are so bloody hoppy, it would be nice to get a bit more balance back!!

Sadly, this use-up doesnt involve using up any crystal.. which rules out lots of clones from GW.

I have Fuggles (loads), Styrians (about 20g), Challenger (loads), Goldings (about 30g). Also, Pale malt, torrified wheat, black malt and roasted barley.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be appreciated! So far Im thinking Banks bitter clone from GW, that sort of playing field. Just limited by not having crystal..

Cheers :)

95% Pale
5% T Wheat
OG 1039 Mash at 68-69C to leave good body and some residual sweetness
Use a little roast barley for colour if you so wish.

Challenger at 90min to 28-30IBU
14g Goldings at 15min (assuming 5G length)
14g Goldings at 0min
10g Styrians dry hop if you want.

Yum!

If you have something like WLP002 or Windsor, you can mash a little lower say 67C.

That'll do nicely!

Cheers Graeme!
