Is this going to be awful or awesome?

Post by Skittlebrau » Fri May 04, 2012 11:22 pm

My partner appears to be almost as daft on brewing as me so we're doing another virtually-impromptu brew next week. I have time to order hops and malts in and can get plenty of pale malt from the LHBS. So... what about this?

I'm going to use reclaimed Buxton Brewery yeast, as they brew great high gravity hoppy ales, which is what this is. Any thoughts, fellow JBKers?

Or maybe lager malt instead of MO for a paler colour? Am I right in thinking that you don't need a 90min boil with British lager malt - only with German pilsner malt? Not that I can't do a 90min boil if necessary. Also thinking of sticking 80g Marynka in for the 80 C steep rather than mess around with dry hopping. Can do either.

I read a thread in another forum about german pilsner malt and several very knowledgable home brewers say you don't need to do 90 with Best pilsner.
I'm just here for the beer.

Just seen this recipe. Hope it works out for you. I tend to find with the stronger beers that I prefer them to be less bitter. 80g dry hopping for that batch size is a lot of hop aroma!

Still, I'd be interested to taste it anyway. Never tried that Marynka hop
