Citra are amazing! I'd be tempted to move some more into the 60 minute addition and drop the 30 minute addition, keeping the same IBU and using the difference to add to the aroma steep.

Had a little play around with this and i think your right, the actual alpha was higher than the beersmith standard so managed to move a good slug of the hops to a 50c steep.

It's very overpowering on it's own infact I would say not nice in high quantities, citra by oakham it's a very nice drop I don't know how they do it. I've had great results as a finishing hop but not when it's be been the lone ranger.

I did a single hop beer with it and it was lovely. This was a 1.042 OG blonde at 28 IBU though. That might make a difference.

I've got a pack of citra just waiting for the right recipe. What would you recomend to blend with it to avoid an over powering taste?
Or would reducing the bittering units do this for me?
I'd hoping to creat a refreshing IPA style of beer with a citrusy tang to it, Cheers

I've done all citra pale ales before now and they are very nice, but you can't drink them all night. If you do everything you eat and drink the next day still tastes of grapefruit.
I did a citra/amarillo pale ale at the end of May and I'm drinking this right now. I bittered with amarillo which is not as harsh as citra and it's turned out very nice indeed.

4.50 Kg MO pale malt
0.18 Kg Wheat malt
0.10 Kg Cara pils
0.15 Kg Cara munich
0.15 Kg Cara red

45IBU target
20g Amarillo At start of 60 min boil
10g Citra 15 min
10g Amarillo 15 min
10g Citra 10 min
10g Amarillo 10 min
20g Citra 5 min
30g Amarillo 5 min
30g Citra 0 min
30g Amarillo 0 min

I've just made an all Galaxy IPA with citra added at flame out. brewday

I love citra but I think it's better added late in the boil as it can be harsh if used for bittering.

I did this. The bitterness all came from late additions and it was lovely. Went down well with everyone else that tried it too.

I've used it well as the finishing hop it worked great with apollo and simcoe, I think it would also work great with galena, and it would let it shine.

So its been in the keg for a while and i have managed to keep my glass from the tap :)
So whats it like? i think its very good base to work from tweak it to greatness!
The smell is of sour grapefruit but it has a slight hint of sweetness of the malt.
First sip is a big hit of the citra hops but the malt backbone holds up well to this.
The finish is quite dry and finally you get that hint that this is not a session beer :)

I think this would work really well with NS as a finish hop.
Most importantly though, i now have a feel for what Citra can offer to future brews.
