Seymour's Blonde Recipe 1st Extract conversion help please

Post by VANDEEN » Sat Nov 14, 2015 1:18 pm

Me again, :?

Following on from my thread here :- viewtopic.php?f=3&t=73940

I Downloaded a piece of software called "Brew target" if you see the batch & boil sizes you'll see I'm not really sure what I'm doing with it :? Anyone else use it?
Anyways, based on a X 0.66 AG to Spray Malt conversion factor (except for the steeped grains) I get these results?
Could someone who knows what they're doing run a comparison conversion through Beersmith or any other proven conversion from AG to extract package &/or let me know your thoughts?

Itching to get under way [-o<

Also how do I get table columns to stay in line/straight without resorting to dashes etc? 3 trys now

Extract version based on X 0.66 or 2/3 conversion from AG of

No, I'm not familiar with that software. There are so many out there, I can't keep up. But I commend you for picking something and doing your best to learn it and make it work for you. BeerSmith is great and very much industry standard, which makes your files much more shareable across multiple platforms. But I still do most of my recipe work long hand, and with my trusty HP12C calculator. You'll get into a habit of whatever works best for you.

In my response on your other thread, I multiplied by .6 rather than your .66 but don't worry. Your way gives you a bit more fermentable sugar overall which is like insurance, it means you're more likely to reach (or exceed) your desired target gravity.

I came up with:
1.91 kg Spray Malt, so of your ingredients, I guess 1 kg extra light and .91 light
221 g Wheat Spray Malt
198 g CaraPils

but I don't see anything intrinsically wrong with the one you came up with.

I'd say go ahead and get underway. Take good notes as you go (but I don't think I need to tell you that) which will help you (a) make improvements as need be next time, and (b) make it repeatable if everything turns out the way you wanted.

Back to you mate, go for it!

Thanks for that :-) appreciate your input!

Re the notes I found a book & intended to start a beer log, at the moment it's still sealed & all notes are on pieces of paper and the back of the labels from the relevant kits I've brewed. I'll get them all written up.... eventually.

Brewday is now going to be Tuesday night, she's just been on the phone reminding me that I need to have everything out of the way for some work that's being done then.
+ I cant get the hosepipe to seal on the tap that's in the garage so need to wait for the adapter that was due on Friday to arrive to run my cooler from the mixer tap. #-o
& she's just announced she's on her way home now, 6 hours before I was expecting her........

Frantic clean up, washing, ironing etc etc to avoid [-X :bonk

PS Spelling also sorted, sorry about that
