wheat spraymalt

Planning my next few extract brews.

When a recipe has wheat ingredients, torrified wheat etc, can Wheat Spraymalt or even extract from a wheat kit do a similar job. I know it won't be spot on but roughly?

Yes, wheat extract will work fine.
I doubt it is 100% wheat malt as it can't be used as 100% of the grain bill.
Yes it can, just add rice hulls and you can make a 100% wheat beer. I've done it and had excellent efficiency and flavour also!!

Bit of an update. After googling it seems that Muntons' (at least) Spraymalt is 55% wheat and 45% barley. So should be able to be pretty accurate with that.

I assume that if a recipe calls for (say) 55gms of wheat malt then i put in 100gms of the spraymalt, or would the recipe already assume the 55/45 DME mix?

Is that 60/40 barley/wheat mix what you get in a Wheat beer kit?

No specific recipe yet Daab, just planning, but I am wondering about a Fiddlers elbow or something like this, from the Norman recipe thread

SPA (special pale ale) 5gallon batch OG 1038 ABV 3.7%

MARIS OTTER PALE MALT 3200 gms
AMBER MALT 360 gms
WHEAT MALT 70 gms

or this

Rope Of Sand ABV 3.5% 5 gallon batch.

PALE ALE MALT 320 gms (I think there's an 0 missing 'ere)
CRYSTAL MALT 180 gms
TORRIFIED WHEAT 180 gms

And as an extract brewer (now) I'm looking use some wheat even tho it can't be steeped like the other grains. I appreciate a full AG mash is the real answer but happy to get fairly close.

Yep that's how I'm understanding it now. Quite happy working out the figures.

Thanks Daab
