Strong Stout!!!

Post by Reg » Fri Apr 22, 2005 10:08 pm

I was having a scan through some recipes by Graham Wheeler the other day and came acroos this stout which I though I'd post up as the subject is quite topical right now with JY brewing his stouts...

It has an OG of 1060 and brews out at around 6.5% alcohol so it is not a brew for the faint hearted... :D

Pale malt 5100g
Black malt 200g
Roast Barley 130g
Flaked Wheat 320g
Cane Sugar 640g
Fuggles Hops 140g (90 minutes)

Mash at 68 degrees
Mash time 90 mins
Boil time 90 mins
Final volume 23 litres

It's quite bitter at 55 EBU! ;)

Well Cane sugar is just an inexpensive way of adding extra alcohol. You can add extra malt although I would have to look up the conversion ratio...

Jim would know! :D
