It would appear that the local microbrewery, who also sell malt to homebrewers, use Pipkin malt for their signature brew so I'm sorted :D

I thought SL was still bottle conditioned but that might have changed of course!

Talking of Hop Back, their Odyssey Best is lovely, had a pint of that a few months ago and was gutted when I returned to the same establishment the next day to find that it had run out.

In the interests of quality control http://www.cartoonchurch.com/blog/images/porpoise.jpg last night I sampled a pint (or so :P ) of my maturing SL clone. It's very nice but lacking some bitterness compared with the original. I guess the fact that I used virtually half the challenger content compared with SL2006 might have something to do with it. I might dry hop the cornie* with some more goldings when I transfer from king keg for a bit more aroma also. The Hogs Back yeast has very high attenuation and so there's no problems with dryness :)

[Do the hops sink or float by the way once they've been dry hopped ? Don't want the cornie dispense tube blocking - perhaps prudent to wrap some sanitised mesh around it ? ]

I suppose I could always crack open the KingKeg where the SL is currently sitting and add the dry hops to that - purge with CO2 and reseal. Then leave for a week or so before racking to Cornie leaving the hops behind.....

OK,I'll just let nature take its course :P

My garage is a great place to store Cornies, sheltered but nice and cold still ! You're welcome to store your SL there DaaB ;)

I've dry hopped in secondary a couple of times and find some hops sink & some float. :o

I dry hop in a muslin bag. I moisten them first with a little hot (not boiling, about mash temp) water to extract more of the aroma. Then rack onto the hops in juice in the secondary.

Visiting the folks this weekend and took a couple of litres of my SL clone. Very well received by my brother and dad, good job I didn't bring the entire cornie :P

It's certainly "in the style of.." :D As in a nice, quaffable summer ale, plenty of bitterness now. I would quite happily down a few pints of it in a boozer :P

Would be interesting to do another batch but using the authentic yeast source as you've acquired DaaB.

A work colleague lives in Downton so I'll have to arrange something B)
