Just made a brew at the weekend for my (soon to be) brother in laws wedding, thought you might like a look at it. Its based on a bitter recipe i had, but tweaked a bit.

Made 5 gallons.
4 kg. Maris Otter
0.25 kg. Crystal malt
0.25 kg. Wheat Malt

mashed at 66c, batch sparged at 70c

21 g. Target (11 %AA) boiled 60 min.
25 g. East Kent Goldings (6.4 %AA) boiled 30 min.
25 g. Fuggle (5.1 %AA) boiled 10 min.
25 g. East Kent Goldings (6.4 %AA) boiled 1 min.

yeast: Muntons Gold

OG 1.043
40 IBU

smells amazing!

cheers,

bod.

DaaB - had a swift slurp of my newly kegged Summer Lightning clone this evening. Verdict is very good, definite SL tastes going on and the colour is spot on. A few weeks of conditioning and a jot of carbonation and I think I'm onto a winner!

yeah, i like my hops! if you cant smell it from across the room then somethings missing... normally another hand ful of hops!

Andy: re batch sparging. yes i always do it that way. i started all grain brews about 2 years ago and at the time it was the cheapest option and all i really needed was a new bucket and a stainless steel braid, which cost me a tenner for the lot!

if you have the recipe for GFB kicking arround i'd love to get a copy of that!!

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ Mar 27 2006, 11:41 PM) andy...nice one ! You used Marris Otter didnt you ? I think I said before mine took ages to really come into its own, 6 weeks I think. Its a tasty brew though isnt it?
Yup, 5kg of Marris was the sole malt ingredient.

35g Challenger for 90 mins
20g Goldings 90 mins
20g Goldings 5 mins

(as you suggested BTW)

Just need the willpower to resist more slurps :D

Any recommendations on how long to keep in KingKeg (clearing, conditioning) before racking to Cornie for carbonation and further conditioning ?

Yeah, I've purged O2 by releasing the keg lid a few times in the first couple of days.

Will leave it in there until a week or so of being ready. Hoping for some nice SL-like pints B)
