Best IPA kit to use?

Post by Jstinchy » Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:44 am

Was looking on making an IPA then possibly dry hopping with simcoe and Cascade (it'll be my first dry hop).

Wondering what kit would be the best to use as the base for the beer before making additions?

Depends if you want a "premium" 2 can kit or a standard 1 can?
Most premium kits will come with dry hops anyway. If you're going single can then I can recommend this http://www.bulldogbrews.co.uk/products/ ... a-kit.html. I added a 1.2kg pouch of malt extract and dry hopped with 50g of Citra. It was marvellous.

Cheers Tom

J,
Wilko has two IPA`s. I`ve used the cheaper one and it was great with a big Hop addition.
How much Hops are you going to use?
Are you buying specified amounts ? (Malt Miller).
Or are you buying 100gr bags?
If this was my Brew, I would boil 3Ltrs water, add 25gr Simcoe and 25gr Cascade, boil for 10mins, rest for 20mins
then pour the beautiful smelling juice into the FV using one of these
https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/idealisk-c ... -50103755/
Sterilised of course. Line the seive with double thickness Muslin or similar, coming up over the edge of
the seive by 100mm. Let it drain for 10mins, fold all edges up and squeeze the Muslin to get all the Hoppiness out.
Dry Hop on day 10 with 75gr Simcoe and 75gr Cascade.
Use these to weigh down the hops...https://www.dunelm.com/search?q=glass+beads
Buy 2 bags, one big, one small because the Hops like to float!
Don`t forget to wash and sterilise everything.
Don`t forget that the extra 3lts of juice will add extra heat to the FV and Brew, so keep an eye on the
temp in the FV. :D

Or you could go 50gr each boil and 50gr each Dry Hop.

Thanks Wales!

Looks great.
Any recommendations of specific hop pairings?

J,
It`s to your taste for the Hop mixing. Depends what you want from it.
Simcoe and Cascade is good,
Simcoe and Mosaic is good, there are loads to get stuck into.
Take a look at `Hoplist has Launched` in the `Hops` thread on JBK.
