Another Solar Pump bites the dust!!

Post by Anavrin » Sun Mar 16, 2014 9:59 pm

Hi Guys

Has anyone had any trouble with solar pumps giving up during use, I've had two fail on me now, I have about 10 liters of dead space below my
two kettle elements in my HLT, for this reason I switch on a solar pump to circulate the water when its gets to 80C, this is to ensure the water temp
is equal at the bottom and top of the tank, other wise the first water out into my mash tun is luke warm.

I left the pump running on 12v for about 15-20 mins on saturday but when i returned to fill the mash tun it had stopped working and
wont run anymore :-(

I think maybe its time to get a heavier duty pump, any sugestions on what type is best?

I have a solar pump which I use for exactly the same thing. Mine runs all the time the HLT is on to recirculate the wort.

I wonder if it is your power supply killing them for some reason as I've had no problems and they should be fairly long lasting considering what they are designed for.
