Hotpoint RLA30 Fridge

Post by Addled Jim » Wed Mar 19, 2014 10:41 pm

Folks,
I have one of these I want to convert to a keggorator. So far I've removed the door and the panel which contains the temperature control and had hoped to find some hidden screws which enabled the top to be lifted/slid off so I could look for cooling pipes etc as I'm hoping to bring the beer lines out through the top
However I seem to have drawn a blank, there doesn't appear to be any way to remove the top off this model. I'm hoping I've missed something and someone has experience with one of these fridges bringing beer lines out through the top?
Cheers,

I have no experience of your particular fridge, but it is not normal for cooling pipes to be in the roof of the fridge, although there can be some electrical cables to the light, thermostat etc.. so worth looking where these bits are in your fridge, if they are half way up the side then you should be fine.

In most fridges the cooling pipes are just in the back, the roof and the sides are usually cooling pipe free.

I have just drilled straight through the roof of all my fridges with my fingers crossed, and of the 3 I have with holes through the top I haven't had a disaster yet.

I'm not suggesting thats what you do, but just my experience.

My first thought also was that the cooling lines are not in the top of a fridge.

Where in Witham do you live by the way? I'm in Honeysuckle Way.

Well the light is mounted on the roof centrally and the temp controls are in the panel I removed with its wires seeming to run centrally too - they must be running through the top then?
Was hoping the top came off for some degree of certaintly

I'm in Albert Road

I assume you have checked the screws haven't been hidden under some plastic casing? That are usually pretty well hidden.

Small world hey, I go to the station every day.

Yes I've had a little dig, levered some likely looking plastic clips/plates out which I was confident would reveal something but nothing - even managed not to break them! Had a look at the rear too but nothing apparent there either

I commute too - the 6:57

In that case perhaps see if there is an online manual, if you haven't already.

I get the train anytime between 5:48am and 7:35am, depending how lazy i am feeling and how much work I have. It's usually around 7 though. You don't happen to work in insurance also do you?

If he does he could insure his fridge against DIY drilling disasters :D

Really good fridges these for kegerator conversions because of the 1/2 shelf at the back.
When I was converting mine I also saw the cables in the top to the temp controller.

I drilled many holes in side (carefully) with no issues.

Holes at left side (towards back) for 2 x gas line in
Hole at left side (towards from) for 1 x heat lamp
3 x holes at right side for beer/cider out.

More info here
Kegerator. What heater and preferred position?

I just looked back on photos taken during build and it looks like top can be opened a bit.

Think mine is slightly different; maybe an earlier or later model? When I remove the panel like you have above I see a plastic plate all the way along - can you see into the void or are my eyes playing tricks looking at your picture?

On mine you can look in after top popped off. See cables to right of temp control unit.

Zoomed in Pic. If too large for your screen, right click and select "view image"
