Brupaks Boiler Thermostat

Evening all

So I've used my Brupaks boiler twice and while I think I've ultimately achieved what I wanted, the thermostat annoys me.

First, it seems to be inaccurate - the markings on it are barely within 20 deg of where the stat will heat to.

Secondly the amount of hysteresis on it seems excessive to me. If the stat clicks off, it won't come on again until it has cooled around 10 deg or more. Also if I touch the stat during a rolling boil and turn it down, it will click off and even if I turn it back to the max it won't click on again until it has cooled substantially...!

Is this common to these boilers or should I be asking for my money back?

If it is normal has anyone tried bypassing the 'stat so that the element can be forced on if necessary?

Any other experience/thoughts?

Maybe should have gone for a mango barrel!

I had problems with getting a specific temp. with the thermostat on a bucket boiler I've got, so I wired up an stc1000
to mine, when I used it to get the mash temp. I'm not sure how easy that'd be to do with the brupacks boiler though.

I've done the same, just got very board with a lot of guess work and constantly having to take readings by hand. I know just set the temp, the tolerance level and forget about it.

Me too. It's not accurate so I use a separate thermometer

OK thanks for the input folks, the STC might be the way to go...
