Hi all...
New to this forum and probably asking an old question, I have just bought another pressure barrel from a well known store, the top comes with a white rubber flat seal.....despite tightening it only hand tight and using Vaseline to seal I still get a pressure loss......my old barrels have a blue rubber o ring and that's perfect....any ideas where I can get these....if not then when I repressure this barrel I will have to drink it all in one go.......OH HELL !!!!!!!!
cheers
Pressure barrel seals
Re: Pressure barrel seals
I don't know if anyone agrees with me but I had more trouble with these pressure barrels than anything else. I had the top tap variety King Kegs and I would go to bed at night and wake up to find beer all over the garage floor where the tap had leaked. I now intend to bottle every brew I make. I know it's labour intensive but I found those pressure barrels to be over priced and poor quality.
Re: Pressure barrel seals
I switched to king kegs for that exact reason. The rubber catches as you tighten and it gets thrown into the keg if that makes sense. Not sure how to cure it sadly. I returned mine to the store I was that peed off with it.
Cheers and gone,
Mozza

Re: Pressure barrel seals
I had similar problems with a barrel, solution of sorts was going ott with the vaseline, greasing one side only didn't work, as I twisted the top the ungreased side of the seal would catch on the plastic and ruck up a bit, in the end i'd grease the inside of the lid, put the seal in and squish it down onto the vaseline, then grease the top surface of the seal, then grease the top lip of the barrel and finally the cap threads, that sorted it for me!
One thing though its not a slow leak around the safety valve is it? I've had that problem too, I blamed the cap o-ring but I ended up smearing more vaseline around the join between safety valve and lid, even tough it had a silicon washer, that worked 'n'all
