Hi Pads72 and Gibbiem,

I'm going mad trying to wire my stir plate which is basically the same as yours!

Went with the same fan with a speed controller attached, but I can't find a like for like guide for how to wire it in anywhere on the net.

I see on your thread that you kept the leads with the clip out from the fan to the speed controller intact. Could you let me know how you wired between the speed controller, the rocker switch and the power?

I've spent a while trying to get it to work, but so far only succeeded in making the LEDs come on! I'm hoping the fan's not busted. I think it's more likely I'm just getting it wrong.

If anyone could help I'd massively appreciate it!

I have-

4 leads from the fan to a clip that plugs into the speed controller/LED unit.

3 leads out of the speed controller/LED unit. Red, Black and Yellow.

3 rocker switch pins. +, 'A' and Earth.

2 leads from the 12v power chord. Blue and Brown.

I've been staring at them for too long now. How on earth am I putting them together?!?!

check the power supply blue and brown wires generally go with AC while pc fans run on DC voltage..

pc fan side black ie earth/ground/-ve, red is iirc +5v and yellow +12v

so using a meter to determine which is +12v and -ve, or if in fact it is DC in the first place on the power supply should help u out,

you can test the fan with a 9v battery usually rob-able from a smoke alarm (JUST PUT IT BACK!!.. ) + to yellow and - to black will run the fan if its ok...
ist update for months n months..

Thanks both.

The power unit was AC, so that was a good call. Trouble is, I still can't get it to work with a DC unit- even wiring it directly only the lights come on, not the fan, so I think it must be busted after all. I'll have to see about getting a replacement. Annoying as now it's all mounted and good to go otherwise!

Gibbiem, if you could let me know which wires you have going where, that'd be a real help to make sure I'm headed in the right direction when the new one arrives.

I need to get culturing up some yeasties!
