Is this normal after a 90min boil?
It stated to cut out on the over temp protection 5 mins to flame out.
I'm not linking out the stat as that's a sure fire way to burn out the element so is it just the way it is?
It was my AG #2 stout.
I have it soaking in lemon juice, same as my first brew.

It's usual to get a deposit like that on the element. I've been using one for more than 2 years and as long as I clean it properly after each brew I don't get a problem. The only time it cut out was when I failed to clean it properly. I use a few drops of CRS or phospheric acid and it cleans up like a new pin.
Best wishes
Dave

Thanks Dave, I did clean it after my first brew, it started to cut out after 85 mins.
I guess all I can do is keep cleaning it then. Cheers.
Lemon juice for an hour did the trick

This is pretty normal for my brews which have up to 7.5kg of grain for the mash.

Phosphoric, CRS etc - 5 mins
If cut out caries on happening at 85 mins I wouldn't worry about it. I think the amount of grain used will have an impact though.
BTW, what's that next to your element? Looks like a hole. Don't have that on mine.
Best wishes

It's a bottom drain fitting from HBB.
I lost too much wort on my first brew due to the dead space so I modded if to be a bottom drain.
What's CRS?

It's Carbonate Reduction Solution, a mixture of sulphuric and hydrochloric acids. I used to use it for water treatment until I realised I was adding chloride to my already high-in-chloride tap water.
So what do you use as a hop filter?
Best wishes

I don't, I stick them in a hop holder mesh thing.
