Hop filter from sheet s/s mesh help please
Hop filter from sheet s/s mesh help please
I had a bad experience trying out hop pellets. Bunged up my copper hop filter they did. I bought 4 x 8x8" sheets of 60 mesh stainless. Is it ok to solder this stuff and use it in your copper? I'm assuming the solder won't have any problems healthwise as we use it in plumbing ? Can anyone help me with how is the best way to make a filter with this stuff. Sharp isn't it!?

I bought a false bottom for my boiler.....same as my mash tun with 2mm holes.
To this I overlayed some very fine SS mesh.....not sure of size, will need to look. The mesh is held on by the SS nuts and bolts that form the 'legs' to keep the false bottom off the boiler floor and secured round the edge with beer line.
I get good run off and have never had a blockage, even with 150g of pellets in the boil.

I like the idea of a false bottom, but my boiler is a 40 l Buffalo and I fear that the FB will cause the element to over heat, given that they are a bit sensitive in that area.Mr. Dripping wrote:I bought a false bottom for my boiler.....same as my mash tun with 2mm holes.
