Anyone using a C'bergTetley Cooler (By MF Regrigeration)?

Post by Manx Guy » Fri May 03, 2013 2:36 pm

Hi!

I have sourced a Carlsberg Tetley 'extra cold' beer cooler (used surplus from a reputable vendor) two product cooler.

I intend to use this for my Vienna, Wheat and Kolsch beers when having a BBQ etc.

It looks to all intents and purposes like a Maxi 210.
I'm going to fettle it later and will take some photos to show.

However it looks just like this one...

I just wondered if any one has used it and if its any good? or has any recomendations on using.

I plan to set it up on a timer so it comes on for a few hours each day so that I can have cool (8-10c) beer on demend (once home from work)

If the Maxi 210 specs are anything to go by it takes 2.5 hours to make the ice bank to get max chilling...

I may have to set it up and use trial and error to get settings I like...

I would however be grateful for any advice...

Cheers!

Guy

Hi Guy, i have a maxi 310 which i use in the summer months, and have found that it takes about 30-45mins for the icebath to reach 0C.. which is cold enough for maximum chill pouring a few beers of an evening..

i fitted a dial thermometer inline on the recircultion pump return to monitor the temp, to pour a few beers of an evening running the chiller for a short while, and again when pouring the subsequent rounds is all thats needed, and the insulation keeps the waterbath cool for the following evening cutting the time it takes to hit zero to closer to 30 mins ;)

if you dont run the chiller when pouring the agitator or recirc motor wont move the cold water over the product coils so it may not be chilled as effectively.. tho its not to tricky to wire the recirc/agitator independently..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Hi

Thanks for that, how did you set up the thermometer inline? Do you mean the water recir for the python/condensation font line?

I have read about people wiring the agitator seperately, while I am reasonably competent I am in unknown territory here.. But I'm confident I could follow instructions...
Do you know if/where these are available on line?

This is my cooler:

Looks like its made by MF refrigeration for Carlsberg Tetley...

Yes the thermometer is in the python/recirc loop.

if you pull the top off the chiller, you will id all the bits im sure but if you need a hint the pump will be in the middle of the icebath close to the in and out water pipes ;) red round bit on its top.. electric wires leading to it ;)

dont forget to check the waterlevel before using (fill till it flows out the overflow, and replug as cold water expands before it freezes)

I have just bought the same cooler, do I need glycol to use it?

Thanks

If its covered in 'glycol use only' stickers yes, otherwise just normal water, glycol thickens when cold and can i believe over tax pumps not designed for use with glycol
