Grainfather all in one brewing system
Re: Grainfather all in one brewing system
So I see this has how launched in NZ and has had some strong sales but doesn't look like its totally sold out. Nov 2014 for UK delivery. I am interested to learn the feedback of people actually using this at home and whether it works well or not. If anyone has any links to reviews by actual homebrewers, it would be good to review them.
Re: Grainfather all in one brewing system
I think £500 has been touted but I think thats just converting $995 NZ dollar to UK (although I haven't done it). Not sure how much it costs to ship these across the globe.
Re: Grainfather all in one brewing system
So how do you heat the water for sparging? Do you need another vessel?
The price isn't bad for someone who doesn't want to mess with building their own but I think it will need a few modifications before it is 100% viable.

Does seem strange not a sell out but i suspect alot of people are waiting to see some unbiased reviews i certainly am but am ready to buy a braumeister but i like the look of this system price could be big factor brewing in a flat it would be great. But not as automated as i would of liked
Re: Grainfather all in one brewing system
From what I've seen you lift the malt pipe and add pre-heated water from another vessel over the grains much like any other BIAB system where you feel a sparge is required.

Yep you need another vessel to hold the sparge water, you can either heat the sparge water in the BM first & decant into a pot, or just make a simple HLT / buy a burco boiler for the job.AnthonyUK wrote:From what I've seen you lift the malt pipe and add pre-heated water from another vessel over the grains much like any other BIAB system where you feel a sparge is required.

I sent them an email about this as I am looking to get into BIAB or AG methods. They told me that they plan to keep the UK retail as close to 995 new zealand dollars as possible.

I've seen the vid n review on the Aussie forum, its a recirculating biab with a bypass
Looks good and apparently works well, an easy diy.
Use a mesh tube rather than a bag gather the mesh around a tube with a cable tie pop it into your kettle, dough in close the top of the mesh around the tube with another tie and your done.
You'll still need something to keep the bag off the element but you need that anyway.

I'm very tempted.
Been considering BIAB just as a way to take up less space and for less stuff to clean.
I think the decider for me is how easy will it be to clean - especially the element. I hate cleaning that in my current electric boiler. Also I guess can I sell my current kit to appease the girlfriend a little...

really? Off to look.
I am very tempted but would need to sell of my current stuff I think, to justify my argument about how much less space it takes up

See, I'm not taken by these at all. You could do it yourself for a lot less and it isn't as automated or as well finished as the braumeister. It still sings very much of BIAB to me, IF this was a route I was looking at, I'd be inclined to get in touch with mrlard (homebrew builder) and get one of his systems for a lot less than £600 :O
