Induction Discs / Pots

Post by rickw » Thu Nov 13, 2014 2:43 pm

Hi

I've managed to get my hands on a portable Buffalo 3000w induction hob. Unfortunately my 50l boil kettle isn't induction friendly.

So do you think I would be ok using a induction disc / adapter to be able to use it (even just in the short term) the biggest I've been able to find are about 28cm (anyone know where to get any that are bigger?) ? Or will it be necessary to get a new induction friendly pot?

thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Cheers

Rick

I see that the Buffalo is meant for pans up to 28cm diameter, so a larger disk probably wouldn't make any difference anyway. Why not try it and see? These disks aren't particularly expensive.

Hi gave it a go last night. unfortunately when placing the pan (even a standard kitchen one) on top of the disc it overheated and the hob cut out as it thought there was an empty pot on top.

However, after reading on some other non-brewing forums about a similar issue I placed the disk (with the handle bent) inside the pot and it worked as the magnetic field passed through the pan & heated the disc. I do think that it is really just a short term solution until I can afford to get something like the SS BrewTech pots that Malt Miller has just put on sale (I also love the look of the Brew Bucket fermentor too!)

But I think that will have to be next year as I need to start saving up. Unless anyone else can recommend a place to get an induction friendly 50+ litre pot (ideally with a ball valve fitted already!) that won't cost the earth!

Cheers
