Brew Shed Size

Hi all

I'm looking to make a brew shed in the garden and have a spot in mind. It is unfortunately a bit on the small side and would only accommodate a shed about 6X4. Would this be too small. Any advice appreciated.

It would be tight, but doable IMO.
I would probably have a bench arranged down one side and across the back wall......making sure I could still squeeze in the door.
Keep one side clear so you can move around and stir things etc.
There would probably need to be a pump or two involved and depending on your ancillary equipment you may have to handball this in and out of the shed at the start and finish of your brewday to create your standing space.

+1 to all of Mr Dripping advice with the codicil.......itss never big enough!!!!having now got 18 fv of various sizes, bottles, boiler mash tun fridge etc etc taken over shed, porch Half kitchen, airing cupboard and frquently the bathroom.....I'm now looking to find somewhere cheap to rent!!

You can brew in any space if you put your mind to it, but kit certainly seems to expand to fill the space.

As an idea, I'm currently building my brewery into a 5x3 garden/log store:



I can just open it all up when I want to brew.

I would suggest you get some newspaper and mock up the internal floorspace of your proposed shed. Then put down your kit and figure out if you can fit in there.

If you don't have the kit then I suggest you find someone that does. I presumed a certain size of my kit when I ordered it, and thought it would fit snugly in a certain configuration, but with all the dials, taps etc, it's all a lot bigger than expected.

To contain a brewery no problem, some folk fit it under the stairs.. But to contain everything, grain and supplies, crates/kegs full and empty, and brews fermenting in progress, careful plannings needed and some sacrifices may need to be made ..

if fermenting there too your in use FV's need to be static and accessible,
perhaps consider a brewery that packs away into a corner when not in use rather than a static set up, sitting the boiler outside (under a temp awning? in needed) on brewday eliminating any steam extraction issues

think dual use, Im using mango barrels as grain stores temporary table/platform legs and brewshed stools they just need a cushion on the lid to become comfy;)
crates make great adjustable height brew platforms too.

Now I've lined all the walls of mine the internal measurements are 7.5 feet by 12 feet by 7 feet high, and I'm still wondering if I didn't perhaps make it too small

My brew shed is not solely for brewing, it is 5' by 7' and the 3 pot brewery occupies a stand 45cm deep, 95cm wide and (to the top of the hlt)185cm high, This works but I definitely need far more space. So yes you can do it in a far smaller space, if you can dedicate the whole 6 x 4 to the brewery then it should be fine if arranged with care

I got 10x 5, should be big enough but the more room you got the more stuff you put in it
