Corny Disconnects

Post by TempTest » Fri May 08, 2015 4:52 pm

Hello,

Considering taking my first step in the world of Cornys. I'm aware that there are two types of disconnect available - Barbed and threaded. Which of these is most common? Of course, either would work depending on what they're connected to but if one is more common/popular then it'd make sense I go for those matching disconnects. I am considering buying the kegs before I buy the gas or tap sides and therefore I'd like to get the disconnect that gives me the most flexibility.

Thanks!

I would go for the threaded ones that come with the JG fitting

+1 for the threaded type, the other type (barbed) have to be held on with a pinch ring, which don't come off and can't be used again. The other way is a jubilee type ring. Which is fiddly.
Where as the threaded type that use a john guest fitting, you can remove and assemble quickly, usually with no leaks. But you do have to check, because after a few times (how many I don't know) the pipe gets scratched abit when disconnecting it. For example while doing a full clean.
Simple solution is to cut that bit off 1-2cm.
