Good blog but I note he was looking at budget canners. Thornbridge have obviously invested heavily in bottling already and the costs of changing perhaps not worth it at this time. Perhaps if they were starting over again they would have invested in an expensive canning line.

I'm curious why the bottling process would have lower dissolved oxygen than a canning process, surely you could get similar amounts with both?

Not 100% sure yet, if I find a premises soon I will start with a gluten free barley malt extract but am currently researching malted millet and ways of removing protein (and therefore gluten) for beer during both the mash and fermentation. See my threads in the gluten free part of the forum if your interested.

Have had an update from Wecan Solutions and the price per can is 50p for small volume, a bit more that the original 35p. That for me is a little steep and more than the cost of what is inside. I still like the idea as you get a custom printed cans for that price but it will need a few of us to get together to have a canning session. It looks like Wecan have a professional setup and if I was brewing at that volume I would be using them.

I personally prefer cans as the beer seems to have a fresher flavour. I did the test with Green Kings Old Golden Hen in bottles and cans. In cans the galaxy hop was much more upfront. Unfortunately cans have in the past been the receptacle of choice for the worst beers as cans are cheaper than bottles so the craft brewers differentiated themselves and by putting their beers into bottles. Fair play it has worked up to a point, but why oh why do they use clear bottles. Just because it is in a bottle does not make it any better. I have had some horror's from a bottle. Clearly a case of the marketing dept winning the argument of form over function. Skunked beer undermines the good work of the brewer. I try to avoid buying beer in clear bottles except when test Old Golden Hen.
