hi all. just got a bargain of a second hand fridge.
so I can put my Cornelius kegs in,
its a bosch logic xx. the temperature setting is digital and its goes from 2 degrees coldest to 8 degrees warmest.
is 8 degrees too cold for my ale, if so what can I do.
thanks sam.
beer fridge.
Re: beer fridge.
It depends on your taste I am happy with most ales served at 9C (the warmest temp on my fridge tested with a thermometer as it gives no idea) but darker beers are best warmer and most ideally a bit warmer. if you want to serve at higher than 8C you could make or buy a controller like this guy sells on here viewtopic.php?f=8&t=71268 if you know how I imagine you could tinker with the fridges own thermostat, but I wouldn't know where to start.
Re: beer fridge.
It depends on the style of ale and your personal taste.
You could easily build a "brewfridge" set up with a STC 1000 controller. Loads of info on here and other websites. That would be the ideal solution.
The cheapest and easiest option may be to set the temp to the highest and then use a simple timer switch so that the fridge only runs a few hours each day. With trial and error you should be able to work how long you need to run the fridge to achieve your desired temperature.

Re: beer fridge.
Going the Brew Fridge route controlled by an STC1000 is certainly your best bet - the fridge will only cool when it needs to and the STC can countermand the internal stat - just set it to the highest temp and leave it. I have an earlier Bosch Logixx fridge acting as my fermentation control - excellent piece of kit
