My goat chiller

Post by stu1001 » Sun Jun 28, 2015 6:39 pm

Inspired bu Setmash's good work on his goat chiller - my version!
7 x 1metre lenghts.
Used 55 ltrs coolant water to reduce 30ltrs wort to 31C in about 25 minutes.
I think i might add another metre to help get the temp down a bit more!

Looks like a neat job. 8)

What's the advantage of that type of chiller over, say, a counterflow?

Isn't just an open counterflow?

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, it looks like a type of counterflow to me

Yes Jim, it is counterflow, 15mm copper inside 22mm. It has the advantage over a plate chiller of visual internal inspection.

No, just the plastic pipes off the ends so you can look through and clean them as you would a gun barrel if necessary. You can't see where the cooling water passes but that shouldn't be required.

Yes in effect a straight counterflow chiller. Just the advantage of being able to clean the wort tube with a small brush! (When I buy one!).
It is made from 10mm copper micro bore and 15mm copper tube and lots of 15mm tees and 15-10mm reducers. The clear tube is from an old symphony. Cost approx. £55.
Thought the clear tube might slip off but seems very sturdy with the hot wort.
