Lagering Vessel

Post by danwlx » Fri Aug 07, 2015 7:59 am

Hi all,

I'm trying to work out what to get to use as a lagering vessel for around 25 litres. A lot of people seem to use glass carboys, I'm not that keen on the weight and fragility of glass as I will need to move the carboy when full. Ive also checked out PET carboys but am again concerned about how easy they are to move when full.

What do you guys use?

Hi Goulders, an interesting idea. Do you purge with co2, fill then uncap post-lagering and transfer to bottling bucket?

Yep, except I transfer to a sanke keg rather than bottle.

As I will be bottling I guess that there could be an issue with the pressure barrel keeping any co2 produced in secondary in the beer? This may cause it to foam during transfer and make calculation of priming sugar for bottling more tricky?

Shouldn't make any difference. Release any pressure in the barrel by unscrewing the cap.

I do exactly as Goulders. Length of pipe from the PB tap to the bottom of the sankey when it comes to transfer. Job done!
