container to hold sterilising solution ?

Post by DC » Sun Aug 30, 2015 2:32 pm

Hey all, I am looking to make some sort of container to hold sterilising solution for pumping steriliser thorough my plate chiller via my solar pump. Just wonder if anyone has any ideas my solar pump has camlock / garden hose fittings as does my plate chiller. I normally make up around 2 litres of videne solution to clean & sterilise equipment. I have a big 70L boiler and mash tun with camlocks which I can fill with water to flush my plate chiller via my solar pump. But if I want to use a smaller amount of liquid I don't have a vessel with fittings on that I can use to prime my solar pump prior to running steriliser though plate chiller & circulate for a while ! Was thinking of maybe using a large milk carton but just wondering how to attach hose lock type fittings to it?

Cheers DC

A 5ltr garden pressure sprayer costs about £5 or £7 posted I got one a few weeks back for £6.95 delivered, Tesco Direct and Wilko's had cheap ones in the summer. You wouldn't need a pump. With 2ltr of liquid there's a lot of air space so it would run for quite some time between pumps.

I did the same as DC, the other thing I found you can do is do as DC has done but with a Male:Male hosebarb (nylon ones are about £3 delivered on ebay) you can prime the line then attach the inlet to the return and just recirculate in a short loop., just as as much air on the line as possible or submerse in a bucket and fit together under water.
