Sizing Indecisions! Help!!!

Post by DethApostle » Wed Sep 02, 2015 2:30 pm

I'm in the process of upgrading my kit from my current 40l Buffalos.

I already have a 38.5l Thermopot Mashtun which I won't be upgrading now and have already purchased a 56.7l pot (with tap and 1x 2.4kw element) thinking that two of this size would be a decent fit with my MT... however... there wasn't a second in stock and it is likely to be a couple of months before they are back in.
I can't find anywhere else that stocks pots in that size as everyone else seems to sell 50's or 70's (short of spending double the amount on a SsBrewtech kettle!)

Ideally I only want to brew enough to fill 1 corny keg and 12 bottles (so 24 or 25l minimum) and have no plans at all to upsize again anytime in the future so to me the 70l's seem excessive.

Now indecision has truly set in as to whether a 50-38.5-56.7 (HLT-MT-Boiler) going to work? Or would I be better increasing the HLT size to have 70-38.5-56.7?
Or do I suck it up, send/sell the 56.7 pot and get two extra shiny Brewtech ones?! (because they'd have to match wouldn't they!) :)

err,, if the thermopot for the upgrade is 38.5l you dont need a hlt with more than 40l capacity,
just heat up the sparge liquor durring the mash ;) so keep 1 x 40l buffalo as your hlt, tho a hlt is an uneccessary luxuary as you can always decant the tun runnings into buckets/fv's while the kettles providing the sparge liquor ;) it will delay the boil by 10-20 mins or so only..

tho at the end of the day its what You want in your brewery that will win over ;)
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

I went for 50/50/50

Mainly just so I had the capacity in the tun for higher abv beers
The boilers a little oversized probably but not a big deal
