Aleman wrote:If you do decide to go for two elements, and a single 32A feed, then take a look at the Neutrick PowerCON connectors. I've linked to the 32A range, but they also do a 20A range . . . they are much smaller and neater than Commando connectors, although that does come at a price.

Of course you would only need one 32A plug and Socket for power coming in, and then you could use the 20A Range for power going out to the elements.
If you go for one element have a look at the 16A powercons. As Aleman says, they are compact and much easier to put into a controller than most other options.

I have a few links in that spreadsheet.

Woohoo welcome to page two ;)

That shopping list looks awesome.

My current thinking is to go with 2.4kw element in HLT and one 3kw element in the kettle. I'll worry about adding a second one if I'm not happy. I think I could build one controller for HLT and the kettle. It would have a 32A input, a 13A outputs for HLT and the pump, and either 13A or 16A for the 3kw. I know the 16A would be better but we'll see. That would require 2 PIDs or one smarter controller. I have a weekend of doing nothing ahead so I might as well spend it reading up on this. I'll need to figure out what probes to get and where to install them.

So far I know that thermos pot will be a good base for my project. I went about the heating the wrong way. I should have thought about the control panel in more detail first. One thing we haven't touched on is filtering the trub. A bottom drain would minimise the dead space but I haven't seen a way to attach a filter to it. Side drain option has more examples on the web but on a kettle that wide every inch equals ~4L.

I'm building something similar, thinking a pid controller is a bit overkill for the hlt. I will probably just use an stc1000 with ssr as it's cheaper and will do the job just as well.

Overkill? Maybe. Cheap PID and STC cost about the same. If I'm putting them in the same enclosure I'd like them match :D

Fair enough, I was planning a stc, auber pid and an auber timer for my enclosure, not bothered about it matching and not keen on using cheap pids

Again these are american 2 phase designs but may come in handy:

No no no no no,just no.The first thing i see is the emergency stop wiring,a resistor from phase through a switch to earth, all it needs is a faulty,or non existent RCD and your E stop aint going to do anything, add a faulty or in correctly wired resistor and the resulting bang is going to make a bit of a mess in your undercrackers
