Hi
Been looking at getting a HLT for my set-up as I currently bring mash water up to temp in my kettle but want the ease and hopefully more accuracy of an electric HLT. I normally do 40 pints / 5 Gallons and I batch sparge in a converted cool box. I have been looking at reviews but fairly limited so I was wondering if anyone on here had used and if they would recommend this or an alternative?

Re: ACE Beer 30 L HLT
It will heat up water but the control is a bit vague, turn the knob to whatever setting and then use a thermometer to check the actual water temperature. It may take a while to get used to. There is a second hand burco 30l boiler on eBay now £40 on buy it now which will do the same job, no guarantee with that of course, only real difference is the tap. Your ebayone has a much better tap fitted.
How is your diy?
If you're fairly confident then fit a digital temp. controller to a used burco to get much better control. A used burco, new controller, and new tap can probably be done for £60 or so. Or if you're really lucky and can get a burco for £5 like I did then a lot less. I'm pretty sure I posted my hlt self build here, give me a minute and I'll try and find it

Re: ACE Beer 30 L HLT
Thanks for reply lg - unfortunately my DIY skills are limited at best so I wouldn't be confident in building my own I'm afraid. Food for thought though as I was looking at the same ACE product sold as a Tea Urn, which is a lot cheaper but without the better tap - would come in around £18 cheaper.
Cheers

Any mates with plumbing skills?
Mind you a connector for the urn and a tap to attach to it is going to come to around £10, so not much less than the finished article. You'll only make a big saving if you can find a cheaper second hand urn.
Good luck with your brewing, I know mine took a step up after I got my hlt sorted.
(Next best improvement was my fermentation fridge - it never ends!)
