Scales
Just wondering what kind of scales you guys use for weighing grain ? I have a couple sets of digital ones but nothing that will give a reading over 5kg and the view with grain bucket on them isn't ideal !

Re: Scales
Seldom weigh anything over 5kg in one go - in fact i'd more likely just weigh multiple quantities and combine. If you're dead set on measuring everything in a single bucket, you'll probably find that postal scales suit your needs better - these usually do up to 25kg in 1g increments; for example :

Re: Scales
got some 50cm sq 300kg scales that my large thermopot tun sits on for grain and liquor measuring
they come up on ebay in auctions starting very low and they dont all go all the way close to the buy it now price.. and with a usb connection and serial querying or continual output streaming you can use them for an automation project..
similar to mine but bigger platform and slightly larger capacity.. same seller..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXTRA-LARGE-3 ... 1478994946
to talk to it on a puter use an arduino uno r3 usb/serial driver and point a telnet client/terminal emulator like putty at it..

Re: Scales
Salters did have a 10kg scale, got one from Argos last year, lots on ebay though twice what I paid. And I just put an old biscuit tin on first to lift the bucket clear to read it

Re: Scales
I picked up a set of Saga (I know!) scales for just over £5 on ebay. 35Kg limit.
I just rest the box on it and start filling with grain. No good for small (<1K) measurements though, I switch back to a set of 5K scales for that.
Also use it to measure my HLT water out.

Re: Scales
A firm called Bakery Bits do a set of scales that do all that the Brewer would need at a good price with next day delivery

Re: Scales
I saw this on Siba's classified section recently, it says around £65 iirc - http://www.marsden-weighing.co.uk/index ... scale.html
Looks interesting, with regards to the accuracy
Edit: maybe the platform is too small though for grain?

We were using these as well. Since we've moved on to this - http://www.marsden-weighing.co.uk/index ... scale.html.
I really recommend Marsden though. Their scales are really reliable and accurate.

Re: Scales
I reccommend a postal scale with a platform large enough for a bucket and a ater feature to zero out the bucket.
It should read in Ounces and pounds. And have a tight tolerance.
