O-rings

Post by smuggles » Sat Nov 07, 2015 3:44 pm

Does anyone know where to find o-rings that are suitable for a boiler tap?

I'm assuming they need to be food safe and heat resistant, but I'm struggling to find information on food safe o-rings.

Thanks barneey, that looks like a good place to buy them.

The problem is I don't know which type to buy, and searching for information on food safe materials is getting me nowhere. Just assume I'm a complete idiot, is there a particular type of o-ring suitable for using in a boiler, or does it not matter?

If you mean the bulk head connector then Powell brewing sell the washers

Oh, you're right, I do mean the bulkhead connector, not the tap. I told you to assume I'm an idiot... :D

Approved for all conditions as per the lable and food safe. For the bulkhead fittings I've seen it seems to just be a washer & not an o ring anyway?

Bit of scrap 22mm copper filed down to make a punch and my washers are sorted.

Thanks, they look good, but it is an o-ring I'm after. The kind that fits in this:

I have now found some cheap on Amazon. The problem was I was getting confused looking at the different types of rubber and completely forgot about silicone.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

That looks like a 1/2" bsp nut designed to take an oring.

The brew pi store stocks them, failing that I think AHB will, I cannot check the ones I have as my fermenter is in use but without doubt there would be a size that the American Ebay seller sells.

They are thick, so when the nut tightens it pushes between the bulkhead and nut to produce the seal
