Springer Filter

Post by barneey » Fri Feb 26, 2016 7:30 pm

I have had very mixed results with my springer filter, I nearly always use leaf so all the brews/experiments were carried out with leaf, not pellet.

Gravity was a slow affair with run off very slow.

1st time using a BM style pump, run off was good and a very clear wort achieved.

2nd time using a BM style pump, the whole system got blocked up and I lost a lot of wort.

Today using the spent hops from the 2nd brew, I tried again the BM pump & also a chugger pump both test failed / blocked after several minutes.

So the final straw was to stretch the spring a little to avoid blockages, this has cured the problem with no blockages, might have to get another spring if using pellets in the future.

Original spring in boiler = 1.5 springs required, stretched spring in boiler = 0.75 springs required.
