that looks like an immersion chiller and a pretty expensive one too. I made my own out of 10mm central heating copper tubing and some connectors to connects 10mm to 15mm and a couple of round pipe like objects of different diameter to carefully bend the pipe round total cost about £20 including donations from a friendly plumber for a few bottles of home brew. Not too difficult, potential kinks in the pipe was the biggest problem.

Bobsbeer on here has done an excellent "how to" on what he calls the Gatling chiller HERE this is a Rolls Royce chiller.

When you look at it another way, it's a coiled up Liebig condenser. With that in mind it's quite a simple build to get the same function, but of course it wouldn't look like that!

I am planning a similar project soon, I will have to post some pictures when it is done.

I've recently made a "copper in hose" type CFC, sadly I've not had the chance to test it yet.
Less than 1/2 the price of the staino porn type but I expect it will be length for length more effective.

I own & use one of these, first up copper or stainless? copper will be slightly more efficient, whatever model you use, you will need to either bolt it to something or make a stand.

Whilst they can be use as a straight into the FV device I normally recirculate first, it thereby gives the option of a clearer wort / reduces the temp in the boiler if you want to play around with hops a little more.

Being a CFC its very easy to clean and you don't need to be so paranoid about the boiler filter doing its job.

If you want better CFC, build a goat, 10 &15mm combo.

If you want better / faster more efficient cooling buy a plate.

If you want something really easy to clean buy a stainless IC.

Best prices for the one pictured I think are on Ali.

Just one last thing think of what pump you intend to use with it, if a chugger it will need to be seriously throttled back, solar pumps are difficult to keep clean & often break, my preferred pump is the BM style ones.

A coil filter if used with flowers is a great combo (just stretch the spring slightly)

Why do you need to throttle back a chugger out of interest, does it build up too much pressure?

id suspect it would blast the wort through the pipe so fast it would hardly cool , ive got a march 308 pump that i restrict quite a bit to get decent cooling. I tend to recirculate through the cfc at a decent flow back into boiler for say 15 mins, gets the wort nice and clear then half speed it into fermentor to get around 15c for pitching.

Yes the wort will flow much too fast through the coil to cool so throttle the pump back on the outlet.
