10L Swan boiler

Post by Wrongway » Wed Jun 29, 2016 9:18 am

I have a 10L Swan boiler arriving from Amazon today. I intend using it for small 1 gal test brews. From what I have been reading they cut out when they reach boiling and resort to an occasional simmer. Not very good for a 1 hour boil. I believe these can be modified by overriding/removing the thermostat cutout. Are the elements up to running full bore for an hour.

Update. It turned up and I had a look after removing the base. It has two cutouts, one presumably stops it boiling all the time and the other will be a boil dry protection as it had a push button reset built into it. Although I could probably override them I have decided to return it to Amazon unused for a refund and look for something more suitable.

I use a 26l Swan boiler and get a good rolling boil. You just need to open up the bottom and pull the thermostat away from the base and you're good to go. I have been using mine for 3 years now with no issues.

generally there are 2 types of protection a thermal switch that cuts out and resets within 10-15mins when the temps have dropped below its trigger threshold and a thermal fuse thats a one off deal when it goes it needs replacing.

the forma is probably a small squat cylinder bolted in place against the pot bottom, and simply detatching it as suggested above should negate it ok..
