Yes, initial cost is higher for stainless, but it doesn’t need to be fancy. I found kegmenters pretty good value for money, especially sourced used. A used Sankey keg is another option. The opening on the latter is effectively a 2” tri clamp ferrule. A bit more effort to clean, but doable. I’d even consider a large 28L stock pot.
