Building a Coleman mashtun
Re: Building a Coleman mashtun
Don't use pushfit, use standard copper fittings. They are pretty snug when you push them together.
Re: Building a Coleman mashtun
Can I ask a question about washers here? I'm converting a Coleman cooler into a mashtun but I'm not sure about what type of washers to get.
From research it looks like silicone is ideal - however I've no idea where to buy them or indeed whether rubber = silicone etc etc.
Guess I need food grade...
Any thoughts?

Buy a silicon baking sheet and cut your own.JayButcher wrote:Can I ask a question about washers here? I'm converting a Coleman cooler into a mashtun but I'm not sure about what type of washers to get.

I used a plastic drum tap for mine which comes with its own washer. Been working a treat for 2 years. Oops, shouldn't have said thatJayButcher wrote:Can I ask a question about washers here? I'm converting a Coleman cooler into a mashtun but I'm not sure about what type of washers to get.

+1 for silicone baking sheet - get one from local cookware store and use a sharp scalpel to cut out your own!rossi74 wrote:Buy a silicon baking sheet and cut your own.JayButcher wrote:Can I ask a question about washers here? I bought one of these £30 + £6 postage. Removed the tap and fitted a half inch ball valve, 1/2" - 22mm adapter and made a slotted manifold from 22mm copper.
Simple no hole cutting involved and it work well, no noticeable temp change over 1 1/2 hrs, easy to clean too. It already has washers!

Sorry for delayed response...
Thanks for all your thoughts.
The silicone baking sheet idea is a WINNER - that's literally brilliant. I'm off to buy one now...my cooler arrived this week.
