Hi Dean, looking very good and smart. I'm in a similar position to you, building from converted kegs, mines very simple and cheapish build again using copper/brass fittings. I have decided to go camlock route but in cheaper pp rather than ss, cheapest option and ease of use, for about £50 for 14X part a female to go onto male bsp threads like ball valves and 8 hose tails giving 4 hoses. I've also gone side drain rather than bottom for simple conversion, depending on dead space might convert mash to a bottom drainer but as heating on gas rings with propane, I can't on the hlt or boiler.

Anyway that false bottom looks very impressive and is exactly the sort of thing I need, where did you source the parts from and how much it set u back if u don't mind me asking? I was thinking of getting a pre fabricated one either slightly smaller so could fit it in without hinging and then use some split beer pipe line, around the outside that would hopefully enable it to be squeezed in or go for a full 15" (£55 pre cut from HBB) and force it in about 2/3 down but wasn't sure how tight it be. hmm maybe a hinged one depending on cost is the way to go. Also depending on cost for an uncut sheet go for a pre cut one but do the hinging myself ie I'd just need to cut it in half and fix the hinge. I've had a quick look for a pre made hinged fb but carriage is £30 odd alone
Thanks
Andy

good stuff thats a well isulated tun ok ;) will still need some serious preheating tho whats the plan for that, relying on boilling the kettle will involve a lot of kettlefulls ;( perhaps recirculating the strke liqour thru and back to the hlt prior to doughing in??

im generally not a fan of keg tuns but this cld be the exception to that rule..
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..

Hi guys,

Just to update you that this build is on hold whilst I wait for the new version of BrewPi to come together. That might need some specific hardware.

Newton the false bottom wasn't that hard to make, all depends on how handy you are. The perforated sheet, hinges and fixings all came from eBay. I can give you links if needed. I don't think you could have a non-hinged one in a keg as unlike stock pots the profile and opening aren't uniform.

Dean.
