Re: Picobrew - what do you think of this?
if whats been looked at before its got some interesting ideas implemented, iirc the hot-break/boil does not occur in the pot but within a rims style tube heater ? but the photo's of the publicity seeking team behind it and the design focus belays the style over function approach taken. ipad only control wtf?

Haha I didn't know it was ipad only, that's silly!
Re: Picobrew - what do you think of this?
Their kickstarter site says 3 gallons into the fermenter and 2.5 gallons of finished beer. That's 9 litres or half a cornie, assuming US gallons. So is it just a half-size Braumeister?

Not really. A touch screen interface is very expensive. A screen is expensive, full stop. Adding a bunch of electrical components, switches, lights, buttons etc, and wiring that all up adds cost to every unit, and stops it from being able to be updated.chris2012 wrote:Haha I didn't know it was ipad only, that's silly!
An appliance that can be controlled from a software interface is a one off cost, and provides more flexibility for future updates.

I mean silly with respect to only using an Ipad, android support would make more sense, considering
the price of cheap android tablets.

Ah, yes. I'd be surprised if they weren't providing that, but the site isn't very informative at the moment

Jim - I based my statement on the fact that it has a 5 gallon keg attached, but in fact it brews about 2.5 gallons - see the FAQ on https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/17 ... ing-applia. This works out at about 16 pints if my arithmetic is correct. Still worth it, if the effort is a lot lower?
Cully - yes it is.
Chris2012 - completely agree.

If I remember this correctly from when it 1st appeared. It doesnt boil. It just holds a temp below boiling.
I find this a major problem, as I believe a good boil is essential. I wouldn’t touch one, unless I had tried one a few times to prove it's self.
And the price is very high.
