That is penetration with no shielding gas behind the weld called oxide coking. :shock:

Nope, I was lucky enough that another member was looking for a conical to use in another application.

Note the first conical I got was sent back for a replacement the 2nd was better but still had faults, nothing against the boys at the shop & good customer service BUT whenever I see something brewing related with this sort of pattern on it, it makes me question the product. The other member in the thread I linked to earlier in this post didn't have any faults with his.

I have received my conical tank yesterday and must say first impressions are very good. The welds are much tidier/cleaner than the ones shown on this thread. I will defer my final judgement until I have used the vessel but will reiterate that it looks good on first view.

From a weld point of view, you shouldn't hardly be able to see the join.

Photobucket.com is the easiest way to publish photos , open an account / upload the photo / get the link for the photo and use the img button on here. If you get into trouble just let us know.
