in a fishtank it can make a difference due to heat loss via the glass and the heaters need to replace it.
I keep tropicals at the higher end [32 degrees] and since i lagged all sides barr front viewing my heaters come on less and my bills have been reduced.

Still not sure it's the wattage of the heater having an effect. For sure insulating a system can allow a lower wattage heater to be sufficient and reduce cost but at the end of the day it's a question of how many kW/hr you put into the system. A higher power heater will just come on less often to get to the same amount of total energy put into the system. The energy lost through the walls etc won't change according to the wattage of the heater.

I feel that in an enclosed system like a brewfridge, smaller is better - larger tube heaters heat faster, pump more watt/hrs into the system, and hold greater thermal inertia.... all of which leads to a larger hysteresis loop on your fridge temperatures and less accurate temp control.

Thats more to do with what and how you are controlling temp rather than the heater, so for example you can set your stc to 18 +/- 0.1 (Which btw is too tight) the chances of you getting to 19 from run on with a properly placed probe (Dont go there..anyone :D) is near impossible and impossible if you have a fan on.
